Sorry I haven’t been around much. This photo explains only about 1/4 of what I’ve been up to for the past little while. We are expecting a boy in September.

Tar and I decided to cash in some hotel points and take advantage of a killer deal on airfare and go to Hawaii for a few days. A Christmas present to each other, if you will. A few days on the beach, taking in the sun, resetting the mind…the thing is, Gaia, our earth mother, had differing plans for us as you can see above.

The rain was pouring down yesterday. Many neighborhoods were flooded out. It’s ok, we are having a great time anyway. We made it into the ocean during a break in the rain, and walking in the rain isn’t that bad because it’s warm and your shoes don’t get soaked when you are wearing flip flops. I found a lei made up of tiny rum bottles which made Tar quite happy.

Recently, I shot some album artwork for my old friend Chon Travis up in Hopland. I am really excited about how the whole shoot turned out, and hopefully I can share some of those images soon. I tricked by brother Sam to be my assistant for the afternoon. Here, he’s standing in for the “talent” during a strobe test. Thanks Sam!

I’m back. Over the years, I’ve noticed that my, umm, err, artistic flow is more like the tides flooding and falling than a steady trickle from the old faucet. I got a bit burned out on the whole photography thing sometime in early August so I just haven’t been shooting very much for the past few months. I think it’s good for the mind to step away sometimes and focus on other interests for a while.

How does your creativity flow?

I’ve picked up a bit of work unrelated to photography that is intellectually stimulating and in a realm I’ve never worked in before. I also picked up another pretty big project that I am excited about. And I am starting to feel it again. I shot some images recently that I am pretty proud of, but I feel the need to play catch up for a few posts.

Here’s my brother Luke at his wildly successful show at Amnesia on Valencia in San Francisco last August. The place was packed with friends and family and familiar faces from years past. And Luke played an pretty incredible set. Here’s some more photos.
